A stroll in the village
- Walking along the main road, you will pass the heroes’ memorial, commemorating the two World Wars’ martyrs of the municipality. In approximately the middle of the village, situated in a small, well-kept park on the bank of a stream you will glimpse the Calvinist church, a historic building.
- You can see a number of beautiful houses which have preserved the forms of traditional country architecture. If you take a closer look, you can find one or two buildings with a veranda using the original Bán Valley slate. Formerly, houses used to be covered with slate mined from the Bán Valley. Mining has been discontinued and slate has been replaced by tiles.
- You can admire a tile and chimney tile collection consisting of more than 2,000 pieces at GP Dr. KISS Miklós’ home exhibition.
- At the southern end of the village, in the Tardona crossroads on a hill-top stands the Serényi mansion, built in eclectic style in 1903. It used to be the holiday mansion of the Serényi family.
- The grave of LAJOS Árpád, a renowned ethnographer, museologist of Herman Ottó Museum in Miskolc is to be found in the Dédes cemetery. His activities and the data he gathered have almost become synonymous with the Bán Valley.
- There is a most remarkable Calvinist church of Tapolcsány to be visited, on whose walls there is a 17th century tulip and rose patterned church interior under the grey oil paint coat. Let yourself be impressed by the church’s painted wooden ceiling.
- The Catholic church was built onto the cliff overlooking the village in 1820. Word of mouth has it that there used to be a monastery for Pauline monks, destroyed probably during Reformation. The church is surrounded by valuable flora. The view to the village and its surroundings is breath-taking.
- The national trail signs (marked blue) coming from the reservoir’s direction along the main street lead you to the Castle of Dédes, situated on the cliff-top of a steep piece of limestone. Although the remains are hard to find, walkers can still enjoy the real challenge of climbing up the cliff.
- For numerous interesting details about the area follow Ostrea Geology Nature Trail and Salamander Nature Trail near the reservoir.
